Play Ball! A Guide to Spring Training in Southwest Florida

Baseball is back! With summer year-round, Florida is a total melting pot for MLB Spring Training. Southwest Florida is home to four of the top teams in the league: The Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, and Atlanta Braves.

Hailing out of Sarasota, the Baltimore Orioles have called Ed Smith Stadium home since 2010. Ed Smith Stadium underwent a total renovation in 2011, making the stadium practically brand new.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have hosted spring training games at LECOM Park in Bradenton since 1969. The stadium, formally known as McKechnie Field, is named after Bradenton resident and Baseball Hall of Famer, Bill McKechnie, who led the Pirates in 1925 to the World Series.

If you’re a Tampa Bay Rays fan, you won’t have to travel too far to see your favorite team in action. The Rays play at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, less than two hours from Tampa.

And the newest team to join the Florida Spring Training roster is the Atlanta Braves. Located in North Port, the Atlanta Braves will be throwing their first pitch in the brand new CoolToday Park on March 24th.
